New Direction

It sure has been a long time since I have posted on this blog...

Since the last post, I have obtained a new hobby... Home brewing.

I will now use this blog to detail my venture through this addictive activity, and tell everyone about the outcome of my beerventure.

Music too... i guess

John Butler- Ocean

I found this in my days of rummaging through anything labeled as instrumental not long after I had discovered Andy Mckee and Explosions in the Sky.  This song does in five and a half minutes, what other bands' albums can't even dream to accomplish.  It is pretty, uplifting, powerful, angry, inspiring, and sad... all while being extremely impressive.

I recommend searching for other versions of this song hanging around, no two are the same, meaning he improvises most of it, live.

Faster than my bullet.

Courtesy of Matt-

Simple, and for some reason, resonating.  I really dig the tag,

"you'd better run, better run.  faster than my bullet."

It feels right out of a spaghetti western. Spouted from the mouth of the dirtiest motherfucker in town, with a  half-dead cigar hanging from his lips.

future

listening to right now- Parisian Dream: Laura Veirs

Sometimes you know that things are floating, changing, and that you will have to adapt to survive.  I have spent the last 2 years living in and working in 5 different cities.  I signed up for that.  I planned to throw my immediate future into, what I would consider, chaos. All that was with the plan of coming home when done.  Back to family and friends that I have had and will have for my entire life.

I am not heading home.  I am not going to the familiarity that I thought I so desired. And I can honestly say, through gut-wrenching disappointment... I am relieved.

I will miss my friends and family immensely, more than they will know. But for the sake of my own sanity and to alter the outcome of this life for the better, it is what I need.

The song is a Pandora discovery. I think that it is a perfect sound for my current state of mind. Slightly odd timing, subdued clashing of the strings and guitar.  Just a little chaos that makes something altogether elegant and perhaps remorseful.

Dat Tuba.

I can't stop listening to this song. The nice little tuba line just keeps dragging me back to it! It is hopeful, and light even while the lyrics take a seemingly different turn.

But if that brings you down, just listen to the low jumpy tuba laughing its way through the melody and smile right back at it.

Kiwi sounds

Temper Trap is already gaining radio time in the states (at least here in Atlanta) and is a large draw at festivals and concerts abroad. This is my favorite track of their album. Hit me with the falsetto!

TV on the Radio was the first band that I ever downloaded at the request of the internet.  Pitchfork rated their album rather high, and I was in a experimental mood.  I have also seen them on Letterman, and this song is on one of the versions of Guitar Hero.  Different sounds, very cool indeed.
